Spirit of Africa
The largest of our camps, River Lodge’s wide, open spaces and airy design are a constant reminder that you’re sleeping under the African sky. River Lodge is more festive and social than our smaller, quieter camps, which is why young couples and groups of friends are often among our guests.

Tucked away in the privacy of the russet bush willow trees surrounding our African spa, these suites feature magnificent floor-to-ceiling glass doors and frameless windows that offer expansive views of the reserve – even from your bathroom.
For those looking to find their zen, the spa suites come highly recommended, as does a spot of yoga from the privacy of your patio while overlooking the magnificence of the bush. Each suite is equipped with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning, coffee and tea-making facilities, a minibar, as well as a lock-up safe and international plugs.

En-suite bathrooms offer privacy, and each suite is fitted with air conditioning to enhance your, and your family’s, comfort. Tea and coffee facilities are available, along with a minibar. For peace of mind, there’s a lock-up safe for your valuables and for our guests from abroad, international plugs for convenience.

Lounge, Pool & Cocktail Bar
Relax beside a roaring fire in our African themed lounge or saunter over to the bar for a cocktail to sip alongside the sparkling rim flow pool, all the while keeping an eye out for thirsty elephants taking a sedate stroll to the nearby watering hole.
For something more indulgent, make your way to the new 12m x 12m pool & cocktail bar. Whether it is a craft gin or classic cocktail in hand, relax on a poolside lounger, or escape the South African sun under a shaded alcove, as you take in the sounds of nature around you.
Dining & Wine Cellar
- Explore our authentic African buffet around a roaring fire in the open-sided thatch Rhino Boma.
- Set in a dry riverbed in front of the lodge, dine under a star-studded African night sky.
Breakfast and Lunch
The Siyadla Lounge boasts its own bar and lounge along with two magnificent fireplaces and glass stack doors that can be opened up to the surrounding bushveld.
All dietary requirements are easily catered for.
On request, Kapama River Lodge can offer kosher meals. For information on our kosher meal options email our reservations team and they will be happy to assist.
Our illustrious wine cellar is stocked with over 600 of the finest South African wines.
River Lodge Spa
Considered one of the finest safari spas in Africa, the River Lodge Spa is a firm favourite with all our guests. Lounge by the spa pool or get a quick workout in before you hand yourself over to our highly trained and experienced beauty therapists for one of our distinctly African treatments.
The central guest entertainment areas include a large rim-flow swimming pool with sun umbrellas and recliners for lazy afternoons. The long L-shaped relaxation lounge and bar under a double-volume thatch, curves around the pool and on either side is a huge double-sided fireplace creating a wondrous open-plan yet cosy atmosphere. The Rhino Boma dining area with tables arranged under a low thatch in a horseshoe curve, has a central open space where a roaring outdoor fire gives a glow to evening meals. Buffet-style meals introduce African flavours with Pan African dishes using fresh local ingredients and specialist dishes featuring venison like kudu and impala.
African artefacts adorn the lounges of River Lodge, and a palate of red and gold reflects the colours of Africa’s earth. Glass stack doors open onto the rim-flow pool to create an al fresco experience. The long, L-shaped lounge and bar, under double-volume thatch, follow the line of the pool to create an airy but cosy atmosphere. In winter, a double-sided fireplace provides additional warmth. Recliners under umbrellas beckon guests to enjoy shady relaxation around the pool, which is also a prime vantage point for game viewing. A small, permanent waterhole lies just beyond the perimeter of River Lodge and attracts various antelope species, elephant and buffalo, so viewing the Big Five – cocktail in hand – is quite usual from here.
In true African luxury safari style, Kapama offers guests three different dining venues. As in classic old Africa, evening meals are often enjoyed seated around a roaring fire in the Rhino Boma. Here, buffet meals are served under open-sided thatch and showcase pan-African dishes prepared from fresh local ingredients. Traditional venison dishes also feature on this authentic African menu. Romantic dining is epitomised by dinner set in the dry riverbed in front of the lodge, under a star-studded African night sky. The experience adds enchantment to any African luxury safari experience. The Siyatla Lounge is purpose-built as an enclosed dining area, where breakfasts and lunches are served. It has its own bar and lounge with two large fireplaces, while glass stack doors open up the lounge to the surrounding bushveld.
All cuisine at Kapama is prepared using fresh seasonal ingredients and herbs grown in the lodge gardens. Traditional South African dishes and accompaniments, such as mealie pap (African-style polenta) and chakalaka (a hot, spicy relish) further enhance the luxury game lodge experience by giving a taste of real Africa. Menus include warthog stew, kudu casserole, impala sausages and oxtail curry. Vegetarians, vegans and various other dietary requirements are easily catered for.
Kapama River Lodge boasts a magnificent wine cellar, stocked with the finest South African wines. Over 600 bottles are on hand, stored in a carefully temperature-controlled and humidified environment. With the exception of French champagne, all the wines and sparkling Méthode Cap Classiques are from choice South African vineyards.
To keep in touch with the rest of the world, River Lodge Media Room has satellite television and a DVD player. The Media Room can also easily be transformed into an intimate conference room for 20 delegates. Guest Internet facilities are adjacent, should you wish to connect with family and friends back home.
