- Combining Rhino Post & Plains Camp,
- How to get there
The nature of a wilderness area is that there are no permanent structures, so Rhino Post Safari Lodge was built using natural materials of stone, wood, thatch and canvas to create an authentic bush ambience. Each luxury suite is stylishly decorated and includes a spacious bedroom with impressive views of the riverbed from the bathroom, outdoor shower and patio deck.
Stilts raise the spaciously, beautifully appointed suites from the riverbank, allowing guests to view the Mutlumuvi riverbed with ease from the bedroom, bathroom and private viewing deck. The suites are set in an open plan style with wooden floors, thatched roofs and, canvas walls.and a ceiling fan.
Following a game drive, guests can relax in the revitalizing swimming pool, take in the views from their shaded patio and watch the abundant wildlife amble down to the waterhole. Sumptuous meals are served in the camp’s dining area, which is set under magnificent Tamboti trees. The lounge, with its extensive wine cellar, cozy fireplace and bar, is the perfect spot for a sundowner.
The utmost care was taken to minimize the environmental impact of the lodge and to that end, no concrete was used in the buildings. Careful consideration was taken in the layout of the lodge, walkways are raised, battery power is used for lighting, a specially designed indigenous Reedbed system processes the bathroom water, and other waste is sorted and recycled wherever possible.
Each en-suite bathroom includes a deep, freestanding bath, “his” and “hers” basins, a separate toilet and an outdoor shower protected by thick reed poles. The bathroom floor is attractively decorated with delicate mosaic designs, complementing the contemporary floor.
All our bedrooms have the following features:
- Double Vanity
- Outdoor Shower
- Overhead Fan
- Mosquito Nets
- Safe & Hairdryer
- Laundry Service
- Electric Blankets
- No Smoking
- Tea & Coffee Making Facilities
- Communal Lounge & Dining Area outside fireplace

Rhino Post Safari Lodge offers early morning and evening safari drives. Safari drives are conducted in specially adapted open Landcruisers, with professional guides. To preserve our wilderness concession, no off-roading is practiced.
In addition to driving on our 12,000 hectare concession, we have exclusive use of some of the Kruger National Park public roads at night. SANparks has allowed us the added advantage of being able to utilise 170km of Park roads after gate closing time – when all the self drive tourists have left and when the other concessions have to be back on their own property.
A typical day would include an early start, a cup of fresh coffee or tea, after which guests set out on their safari drive. Guides at the lodge meet the stringent requirements of the South African National Parks and senior guides hold the highest guiding qualifications possible in South Africa, to ensure that your encounters with the African wilderness are exciting, informative and safe.
In the late afternoon after a delicious high tea, you can enjoy an evening safari drive, winding down with sundowners, watching an African sunset and spotting nocturnal animals in the Park.
One can also combine your experience at Rhino Post Safari Lodge with a stay at Rhino Walking Safaris - our exclusive, tented camp offering an unforgettable guided walking experience, and even a night under the stars at the Sleepout Decks. These must however be pre-booked prior to arrival.
Pre-book a night at the Sleepout decks. You will leave Rhino Post at approximately 16h00 to drive into the wilderness concession and spend the night under the stars on raised platforms. Enjoy a meal cooked over an open fire and look out for animals drinking at the waterhole below before curling up sleep, lulled by nature’s night sounds.
Golf in Skukuza
Play a round of golf on the Kruger Park’s unfenced golf course. Enjoy sightings of hippos and crocodiles, while pitting your wits against both the 9 hole (18 tee box) course and the baboons, impalas and warthogs that roam the fairways.
Tailor Made Birding Safaris
Pre-book a private vehicle and guide to spend time recording and photographing as many of the Kruger Park’s 529 species of birds that you can. Your guide will tailor the drives to your specifications, with focus on birds, bird identification, and time spent in different habitats to maximize your experience.
Whether you need to de-stress with an Anti-Stress Massage, recover flexibility with a Deep Tissue Massage, or just pamper yourself with a Tribal African Wrap, our professional spa treatments take place in the privacy of your own room. In-room spa therapies are available on pre-booking between 06h30 and 13h30 daily. Please book at least 24 hours in advance to avoid disappointment and confirm your treatment by 16h00 the day before
