Superior Safari Cuisine

The food at Garonga Safari Camp is a fusion of the resident chef’s exceptional culinary skills and there is a varied selection of excellent South African wines – making every meal at Garonga an unforgettable experience.

Location

Garonga Safari Camp is situated in the secluded and private Makalali Conservancy in the Limpopo Province, and it is one hour from Phalaborwa and Hoedspruit airports, west of Kruger National Park. It can be reached by car, private air charter, or commercial airlines.

Safari for the Soul

Garonga's holistic philosophy is to offer a safari for the soul, an unhurried and intimate wildlife encounter – a time to reflect and find inspiration in nature. You can either try your hand at every activity we have on offer, or you can do simply nothing at all – lazing in the hammock with a good book while watching the grazing impala.
Activities include game drives, wilderness walks, sleep-outs, outdoor bush-baths and aromatherapy and reflexology sessions. We encourage our guests to indulge in activities that will allow them to walk close to the animals, and thereby enhance their wildlife encounter.

Wildlife

Garonga offers a true safari in a pristine wilderness. The wide variety of game at Garonga ensures that guests are pleasantly surprised at what they see, as well as how close the animals are when they are sighted. Staff and guests have contributed to this wildlife photo album. There is plenty of interaction with the Guests when looking for game. Guests are encouraged to follow the tracking experience (almost as exciting as seeing the game) whether by vehicle or on foot. We encourage our guests to interact with their environment as much as possible, taking a deeper understanding of wilderness away with them.

Get Married in Style

Your wedding is said to be one of the most memorable days in your life - however, this is often not the case, and unnecessary stress and irritation can occur when things don’t run as smoothly as planned. Garonga will not only offer you a place of tranquility to hold your dream wedding, but we will be able to assist you in coordinating and organising the event– thereby leaving you free to relax and enjoy your special day in style.

Little Garonga has three fully en-suite, thatched and air-conditioned suites, all situated around centralised indoor/outdoor lounge areas, a swimming pool and built-in braai/BBQ area. Each suite has its own platform deck, complete with hammock.

The lodge also has its own host, chef, waiter and housekeeper so is totally self-contained and run separately from the Safari Camp.

Hambleden Suite – a once in a lifetime experience.

The Hambleden Suite is an exclusive private villa complete with a raised deck, two separate rooms, its own swimming pool, private indoor/outdoor lounge areas (covered) and a huge bathroom with a beautiful hand beaten copper bath tub and indoor/outdoor showers. The suite has its own mini-bar, and is fully air-conditioned.

The Hambleden Suite is perfect for a couple who wants total luxury and exclusivity, and is also available to accommodate a family of up to four.

Chiltern and Buckingham Suites
The Chiltern and Buckingham Suites are set overlooking the bushveld and are each suitable for a couple sharing. The suites have their own platform deck with hammock, and a lounge with writing desk.

There is a seating area in the main bedroom consisting of a mini‐bar, an air‐conditioning unit, as well as ceiling fans.

The bathroom consists of a bath, two basins, an indoor shower, and large outdoor shower.

Tented Rooms
The accommodation at Garonga Safari Camp reflects the surrounding bush. It offers a real "home away from home" experience, where service is professional and friendly, yet unobtrusive.

Each of the six en-suite luxury units is sculpted out of rough-plastered walls and overarching canvas tents. The tents are situated overlooking a dry riverbed, and have a wooden deck complete with hammock that commands spectacular views. The rooms are light, airy and spacious with large, draped beds and indoor/outdoor showers.

Garonga offers a true Big Five safari experience, with expert guides and trackers who are knowledgeable about the wide variety of animals in our nature reserve. Track wildlife in the pre-dawn or enjoy traditional early morning and late afternoon game drives.

Safari walks with a game ranger are another highlight, bringing our guests up close to the flora and fauna of the nature reserve. The Garonga guides will also point out the varied birdlife, and explain how they track animals by their prints.

Game Drives
Game Drives are at the heart of the Garonga experience, allowing our visitors to encounter the Big Five up close. Your stay will typically include a morning and afternoon game drive on our open-air Landrovers.

Enjoy tea, coffee and snacks in the bush as the animals are waking up on our morning game drives, and cocktails or a glass of wine as the sun dips below the horizon on our evening game drives. In addition to the Big Five (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, white and black rhino), we also have cheetah, hippo, crocodiles, spotted hyenas, wild dog, and plains animals like zebras, giraffes, and several species of buck.
